"In early 1990s, I was relocated as an expatriate to Japan, to manage the Tokyo office of an U.S. high-tech company. Through a friend, I was introduced to Hyakka Nomura Dolls’ remarkable showroom in Asakusa. I was completely taken by and in awe of the Kimekomi Dolls displayed in the wall showcases. I was fascinated by the number/varieties of vibrant brocades used on each doll.
That was the beginning of my patronship with Hyakka and the start of my collection! The service/reliability/care in every aspect was second to none! Later, I ordered internationally, and the items arrived with an impressive handling/packaging.
I have a display of a doll, in its own glass case, in each room of my house, each with a different motif. Over the years, I have also gifted them by motifs befitting to the celebratory occasions. One such example is, I ordered four of ‘Kyoto’s Love’ dolls, the one that a male and female dolls are connected, to give as a gift for three upcoming weddings of my U.S. colleagues, and of course, one for me!
Now that Hyakka’s business has transitioned to a new brand, Yujinart, with a new line, application of the Nishijin brocades to produce striking items of interiors and fashion, I am further attracted to acquire/collect the items made of these captivating brocades, maybe starting with the Zen cushions!"
